Do you love your corn, potatoes, beans and rice, and wish that they just weren’t starches so you could eat them to your heart’s content?

Well if so, then do we have a myth-busting, turn-things-on-their-heads, no potato left un-turned, starchy show for you!

Today we’ll be talking with Dr. John McDougall, author of 12 National Best-Selling books, including The Starch Solution: Eat the Foods You Love, Regain Your Health, and Lose the Weight for Good!

Today we’ll be talking about starch, what it is, why it’s supposedly not good for us, what the studies show, why you’ve never heard this before, and perhaps the shocking truth.

For I want to get to the bottom of this, because I love my potatoes and with a bit of salt, but for years, wouldn’t touch a single one. I’ve been high ketone, high fat, high veggies, lots of green smoothies, but always, above and beyond everything else, LOW STARCH…and don’t even get me started about the glycemic index. But we’ll talk about all of it today in a mind-blowing, myth-busting show. Nothings sacred today, and especially not the potato.

John McDougall, MD is a board-certified internist, author of 12 national best-selling books, the international on-line “McDougall Newsletter,” and medical director of the 10-day, live-in McDougall Program in Santa Rosa, CA. Other McDougall activities include seminars and health-oriented adventure vacations. Results of the McDougall Program are published in the Nutrition Journal (http://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1475-2891-13-99).

The Nightmare says:

I started to eat this way this last week. Today is day six or seven, I can't remember if I started on a Saturday or Sunday. Over the last year I had gradually adopted a fast food diet; breakfast sandwich, donut and coffee from the gas station, subway, McDonalds, or sometimes nothing at all for lunch. Dinner was the only meal I was likely to cook. There was not a fruit or vegetable to be seen most of the time.

I don't know that I've really noticed any major changes so far, but it sure feels great to be eating these foods. I noticed that over the last week, I don't really crave sugar like I have in the past. Hopefully I will see even more changes over the next weeks and months.

joe gouaiana says:

sugar levels were at 190-200 doing low carb high fat and inching down, now I switch it to starch based, plant based, no oil, salt, sugar, and my levels have shot up to 370 at the high. can someone give me some kind of answer? thanks

Terrific interview mate. You did so well and I like how you asked the right questions (playing devil's advocate and considering what "anti vegans" or "anti plant based folks" might be thinking). Great stuff.

Buster Brown says:

Six month old babies on breast milk are showing huge gains in weight. It has nothing to do with protein… Hundreds of chemicals can be found in breast milk nowadays! Fasting and calorie restriction have been shown to increase life longevity and nothing else. PestiCIDES, GMOs, processed foods, drugs, chronic stress, smog… must be avoided at all cost. You can stick your head in the sand, but it's probably toxic too.

joan lantis says:

i always wonder if it is the genetics of asians that keeps them trim.
