Impressive footage of Jennifer Lawrence singing turns out to be impressive footage of Jennifer Lawrence…lip-synching. Earlier this week, Relativity media released a music video of the Hunger Games star singing an acoustic ballad for their new horror movie House at the End of the Street…and within minutes several media outlets were already projecting a promising music career for the talented young actress. Entertainment Weekly called her an aspiring triple threat…Indiewire said Lawrence’s voice was lovely and demure…But as Variety reports, the lovely and demure voice in the video actually belongs to musician Sarah Rayne.

We should mention Lawrence did record a version of the song with her own voice and producers were very close to using it…but in the end they decided to go with Rayne’s vocals because her sound fit the character better. House at the End of the Street music supervisor Steve Lindsey talked to Yahoo’s Movie Talk about recording with Lawrence…who said she was “very down-to-earth, hard-working and had no pretention whatsoever”. And for the record, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the oscar nominee sing…she did whisper a few soft notes for Rue’s Lullabye in the Hunger Games.

So who’s to blame for this snafu? Variety points out that none of the House at the End of the Street promo materials explicitly say Jennifer Lawrence’s voice is the one they used and that tons of entertainment journalists just assumed as much. While the released video doesn’t mention Jennifer Lawrence being the actual voice behind the song, a press release included with the video was titled “Jennifer Lawrence Sings” with Lindsey quoted as saying Lawrence possesses “skills that are paramount to recording music,” so we think the confusion is warranted.

House at the End of the Street is in theatres now….would like to hear the actual recording of Jennifer Lawrence singing All You’ve Got to Do is Fall in Love or do you think she should just stick to acting?
